When you live in a country as diverse as the United States, maintaining and teaching your children about your Latino culture can take some work. I grew up in the Dominican Republic, where we all spoke the same language and basically ate the same food. Here in the States, there are people from all over the world; People with different traditions, and definitely different food habits.
My husband is also Latino (he’s of Puerto Rican descent) and being able to teach our daughter about our traditions is important to us.
I have learned to teach my daughter about our Latino culture through books, music and most importantly through food, being able to share with her, the products that we used to consume as kids makes me happy. I remember the first time I went to Walmart and found most of the Nestlé® products that my mom used to feed me and my sisters when we were growing up.
On that note…Today I want to share a simple Latino snack: crackers with cheese and guava paste. I love to serve the crackers to the kiddies with NESTLÉ® NIDO® Fortificada… Me? I love to eat them while drinking NESCAFÉ® Clasico™ Dark Roast Instant Coffee or NESCAFÉ® Taster’s choice® House Blend Instant Coffee with a splash or Nestlé Coffee-mate® Natural Bliss® Sweet Cream– It is so good!
I remember drinking Leche Nido as a kid–I loved it! and now I love to offer it to my little nieces and nephews. Leche Nido forticada include vitamins A, C, D, Calcium, Iron and Zinc so we can keep smiling as our kids keep amazing us. Since my daughter is twelve, she prefers Nestlé Nesquik® Chocolate Milk which is great cause it has 8 grams of protein!
It’s a win-win for the whole family!
These crackers with cheese and guava are perfect for after school snacks. Here is how I made them…
- 10-12 crackers
- cheddar cheese, sliced into small squares
- guava paste (cut into small pieces) or guava jam
- Arrange the crackers in the following order: crackers, cheese and guava paste.
- Enjoy as many as you want!
I hope you can make this simple snack with your kids! Let us know what you think by sending us a comment and don’t forget to follow! Also, learn more about Nestlé Back to School Product Shelf on Walmart here!
Saludos!

Johanny I am 67 years old. These crackers go a long way before you were born. They were part of our breakfast with a soft boiled or fried egg. At night the crackers with the cheese and guava paste would be our snack with a cup of hot chocolate Cortes. Ohhh I don’t want to forget, they were served to friends and family when they came to visit; also at wakes.

Wow Magdalena I didn’t know you would eat this at wakes–interesting! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

OMG, crackers, cheese and guava paste, out of this world good!! One of the best trio combos I’ve tried and my children have tried, and they’ve liked. Thank you for the new snack idea.

I remember having guava and white queso on ritz crackers at a get together for the first time when I was about 16 years old, and I couldn’t stop eating it. I thought the lady who served it to us was a genius! Lol. Thanks for the variation!
