Buttermilk: is a sour milk used in the preparation of many recipes like pancakes, and some breads. It does not contain butter and it is slightly thicker than regular milk. This recipe for homemade buttermilk is great for baking. In fact, the combination of buttermilk and baking powder or baking soda; will make fluffier, tender and tasty treats.
I don’t usually buy buttermilk unless I’m preparing an specific recipe. The Problem? I end up with a almost full container of buttermilk sitting in the refrigerator. A while ago I learned the easiest way to make homemade buttermilk; I was watching a cooking show and they where showing how to make it with whole milk and vinegar. I decided to give it a try, but instead of vinegar, I used fresh lemon juice. It came out perfect!
