Mini turnovers filled with a mixture of beef and spices. Perfect for the holiday season.
I came to this country about 12 years ago and for the first time I found pastelitos discs, Can you believe it? Of course I couldn’t help myself and buy more than one packet.
Now, when it comes to flavor, these pastelitos are not different than the regular empanadas, however they are perfect as an appetizer since they are considerably smaller than the regular beef patties.
I used picadillo as the filling. Remember that recipe? But you can use cheese, guava and cheese, chicken… the choices are endless.
This recipe make 10 pastelitos.
You will need…
- 20 store-bought mini turnover discs.
- About 1 cup of cooked Picadillo or any other filling (cheese, cooked chicken, etc)
- About 2 cups of Canola Oil for frying
In a deep frying pan, heat the oil.
Take one of the discs and place about a teaspoon of the meat mixture or any other filling that you prefer in the center.
Place another disc on top and with a fork press down on the edge of the dough making sure is sealed all the way around.
Fry 2 or 3 pastelitos at the time for about 5 minutes or until the turnovers are golden brown.
Transfer to a plate with paper towels.
I hope you can make this recipe, and if you can’t find these mini turnovers, you can always use regular empanada discs.
